Firespiral – a look through the Kaleidoscope

Garnet Callisto Kaleidoscope

Brand: Firespiral Slings (UK)
Material: 72% cotton, 16% hemp, 12% viscose
density:  270 gsm
colours: copper, lilac
release:  2018 (tba)

About the brand: Firespiral Slings is one of the “oldest” babywearing brands, run by two passionate women in the North of England. All releases – and I’m following them for years – are totally down-to-earth – with nature-inspired designs and colours. The website has an excellent database where you can follow the pieces of art from the past.

My first impression: Garnet Callisto Kaleidoscope has been woven in the “Alchemy weave” – a rather loose weave which makes the wrap soft and mouldable out of the box. Although hemp normally feels a bit hard, this wrap is cushy enough. The Kalleidoscope pattern has appeared in many different colour combinations before. The vivid lilac from Callisto warp paired with salmon pink and copper are almost melting together which makes it harder for the eye to recognize the pattern, especially with this kind of weave. But it gives the wrap an interesting, animated structure. And look at how it shines in the sun?

How does it wear: This is really an ace. The combination of the soft and rather stretchy viscose and the stability of hemp makes it a supportive wrap that glides with ease over the textured fabric. It’s really forgiving and nice on your shoulders. Very nice to tighten and leaves a good wrap job with nothing slipping down anywhere, the fabric just stays in place.

Conclusion: A wonderful wrap to look at and to wrap with. I know some people say it’s a pity you can’t really see the pattern but that’s always an individual thing, right? I for myself love the rather rustic look of this one.
Suitable for newborns and toddlers as well. Perfect during all seasons.

Tested in march 2018 with my 14 months old baby. Thanks to the sponsor for the opportunity!
