“Lou” Musselin Rose Overall
About the brand: Kitzheimat is a german brand, founded by two mothers, Anja & Janine, who were looking for a high quality yet modern looking overall for their children. With years of experience in fashion design and product management and distribution, they founded their very own label producing overalls and accessories for babies and children in a neutral but beautiful design in high quality. Look at their website for more information.
Tested product: The Kitzheimat Overall “Lou” Musselin Rose contains 100% virgin Merino wool (organic quality) on the outside and 100% organic cotton for the lining (hood/neck). The Overall comes with zipper in the front and sewed-on flaps on sleeves and legs to keep the hands and feet warm. Available in 5 sizes from birth till around 4 years. With star appliqué on the chest. Wool is self-cleaning which means you don’t have to wash it often. Dirt can easily be removed by tapping it from the overall.
How is it: So far I’ve only tried and seen overalls made of boild wool or merino. The Kitzheimat Overall seems to be the best of two worlds. Boiled wool is rather stiff and scratchy, merino is soft and cozy but rather thin during winter. This one from Kitzheimat is wonderfully soft, quite thick and just beautiful.
Weather-suitability: I didn’t try it with heavy rain but apart from that, I think you can use it during all (colder/windy) days and regulate with the clothes underneath. The overall doesn’t have a lining to let the baby profit fully from the characteristics of the wool. The air cells build a natural cushion against cold and heat. It provides protecting warmth even during temperatures below zero. It balances the temperature, emits excess warmths and protects against light rain and snow while being soil-resistent. Dress accurately to keep your baby warm, e.g. with wool/silk body and shirt, trousers etc. The overall comes with hood but you should still dress with a seperate beanie.
Fit: Great fit ‚cause the overall is cut widely which leaves spare room if you decide to dress your baby with a thicker shirt and pants. Don’t buy to small to enjoy it even longer, especially if you use it for babywearing and also because the zip doesn’t run out to one leg (which would make it easier to dress for babies who can’t walk yet and just step into the legs) but stops at the crotch.
My girl wears 74/80 (6-18 months approx).
Conclusion: Very nice, cozy and lovely overall. Perfect for babywearing in the winter. The softness of the material makes it easier to wrap your baby then with other, stiffer overalls. I decided to wear my baby under my jacket with the overall to keep us warm. She did not sweat and only her hands were cold because I didn’t clap the sleeves ove. I also might to try it in a wrap without a jacket and I guess she will feel warm enough.
Tested with my 11 months old girl. Thank you for the opportunity!
