Why I love my menstrual cup

It was back when I got my period again around 20 months after my second daughter was born when I first heard about the menstrual cup. I don’t know if anybody told me or if I’ve just seen it on the internet. But I ordered one and was eager to use it.

Who wants to feel the period all day round? Not me…

I just wasn’t satisfied with tampons. They always seemed to be in a wrong position. And they let the fluid pass right through while staying dry themselves. Or they slipped down and disturbed me. Who wants to literally feel that she’s having her period all-the-time!? Free menstruation? Sounds wonderful. But I tried it and it didn’t work.

So, I’ve been there with the cup and it took me some time to learn how to fold and use it, how much to shorten the handle etc. But then it was like a revelation. I put the cup in, wore it for hours and there was no accident ever. Only a tiny trace after the night. Or also during the most intense 1-2 days when I didn’t take the time to empty it for a while. I always combined the cup with either Thinx (I love them) or washable slip inserts. – Perfect team and sustainable, too!

Yeah, I love the fact that I don’t produce this kind of garbage anymore. And hubby is also happy with no garbage like this anymore… 😛

I don’t feel it, I even forget about it!

Best thing about the cup is: I never have to ask anyone if she’s got something with her ’cause I can just clean and reuse it. I don’t have to buy anything every now and then. And last but not least: I don’t feel it! Correctly placed I don’t even know that I’m bleeding. it’s secretely hidden and doesn’t bug me at all. Yeah, I even tend to forget about it 😀

All those advantages make the cup the perfect menstruation accessory for someone who loves sports (even watersports or, err, just bathing, wellness, sauna…). Can you imagine practicing jumping jacks with a tampon? Err… Do you know the feeling that you’re done swimming and your tampon is fueled with water… gnah! I used to go to the sauna often before I got kids. But it’s just the thing that you feel the need to press your thighs together for noone sees that cord hanging down there…

Conclusion: I’ll stick with my menstrual cup for a lifetime

I’ll stick with the menstrual cup until my menopause (At the moment I’m clean, thanks to breastfeeding and hopefully it’ll stay like that for another few months). Not only, I’ve already convinced several of my friends to use a cup and all of them are as happy with it as me! 🙂
