Sestrice – two different yet stunning wraps

Folk Waterfall / Modranska Red

Brand: Sestrice Wraps (Slovakia)
About the brand: Sestrice Wraps has been brought to life by two sisters – Barborka and Slavka – as the first Slovakian woven wraps brand. They look for high quality yarns that are suitable for the smallest babies. There’s a long and interesting interview on their website with the two sisters, you should really give it a read, it’s fascinating and lovely to see that it’s a real family business 🙂 Beyond wraps, there are also carriers and accessories available at Sestrice.

Traditional Slovak motifs and ornaments are our inspiration as a reminder of the times when carrying babies in wraps was totally natural and went without saying.

Folk Waterfall

Material: 73% combed cotton, 27% mulberry silk
Weave: regular
Density: 295 g/m2
Colours: blue, white, grey, turquoise/light blue

Modranska Red

Material: 70% combed cotton, 30% Climayarn soft®
Weave: Airy Tri Weave
Density: 280 g/m2 (prewash)
Colours: red/white

My first impression: Both wraps are really beautiful with its designs and colours. The designs are vivid and look natural. Folk Waterfall has a floral pattern and a slight shimmer and shine. Modranska red is a limited cooperation with modranska®, a company focused on creating handmade pottery. A lovely and unique pattern with beautiful hearts and a folkloristic attitude.

I imagine it suiting best with a dress. Whereas Modranska features a powerful red, Folk Waterfall is with block colours which makes it perfect for beginners to wrap. Modranska feels sloppier, more structured and heavier in hand, Folk Waterfall is a bit thinner and feels smoother.

Sestrice: one brand, two very different wraps

How do they wear? Both wraps are very nice but also quite different! The silk adds a luxurious touch to Folk Waterfall. The wrap isn’t as soft as Modranska but wraps easily. The fabric glides smoothly and it’s lovely for multi-layer carries. The support with this is amazing as you might already know it with silk. This will turn out as a great wrap for summer due to its cooling qualities.

The Airy Tri Weave of Modranska makes it a soft and moldable wrap. The used Climayarn® “combines the advantages of natural wool with the strength of Polycolon high performance fiber. It is soft to touch, transfers moisture very well, warms in cold weather and prevents heat accumulation. It is machine washable and dries very quick.

These characteristics make it a real allrounder wrap. It was especially easy to use it for a Double Hammock which I didn’t expect. The double-layer makes it more toddler-proof because worn in a one-layer-carry, there’s quite a bounce with a heavier child.

Conclusion: For beginners I’d recommend Folk Waterfall because it’s easier to tighten. For more experienced wrappers, Modranska red. Both are soft from the beginning and suitable from birth on. I’d probably rather choose Folk Waterfall with a toddler because of Modranskas bounce.

Tested with my almost 15 months old baby in april 2018. Thanks to the sponsor for the opportunity!
