Buzzibu Onbu von Buzzidil

Buzzibu test – Onbu meets Full-Buckle in one carrier

Buzzidil BuzziBu Brand: Buzzidil (Austria)
material: 100% cotton (panel)
age/weight recommendation: 6-36 months / 5-18 kg
dimensions: panel width: 32-50cm / lenght: 53cm
special feature: small bag on the side of the panel containing the buckled connecting strap for the hip belt. Headrest.

About the company: It was 2010 when we first heard about „Buzzidil„, the brand with the crocodile wearing it’s baby on the back ? An austrian mother decided to design her own carrier while she was expecting her third child and didn’t feel that the carrier she already owned was completely convincing her – neither in style nor in functionality.

Years later, Buzzidil is no insider anymore but well known at least in Europe. Designed and made in Europe. And through the years, Buzzidil developped into a nice brand with ergonomic and adjustable carriers and wraps.

BuzziBu test | My first impression

It was a video I’ve seen first when I heard about the Buzzibu (it didn’t have a name yet back then ;). I thought: nice idea but how in the world can that small improvised hip belt be comfy!? I will already tell you… it is! Anyway, the Buzzibu arrived together with the Buzzidil and I loved both from design, adjustments etc. But I’ve always been struggling a bit with onbu style carriers, so… I’ve been excited how this one would fit.

Buzzidil BuzziBu How to use it: The BuzziBu comes as Onbu with adjustable crotch. Just pull on the cords to adjust it to your child, use it like any other buckled Onbu and adjust the length of the shoulder straps to your needs.

If you want to use the BuzziBu as Full-Buckle, take out the connecting strap, open the buckles between shoulder straps and hip belt, close them again on the foreseen counterpart on the back, place and close the connecting strap, adjust shoulder straps and hipbelt.

How does the BuzziBu fit and wear: I’ve used the Onbu to mow our lawn which takes 45min approx and found it very comfy. The shoulder straps are well padded for a cozy feeling (low pressure on the shoulders) and of course it’s a fast up and down like with any other Onbu, too. The only thing (but it’s a problem I always have with an Onbu) I’d love would be that my child gets higher.

But though I’ve had all straps as close as possible, she still was lower than I’d liked it. But I guess that’s just the Onbu thing because if I could close it even tighter, she would have too much pressure on her back or neck possibly which wouldn’t be comfy for her. And yet she will grow and automatically sit on a higher position. 😉

Buzzibu – quick and easy switching

Now talking about the change from Onbu to Full-Buckle: the buckles do have a three-point-emergency-lock but the button in the middle is pretty small. My nails aren’t too long but I’ve still broken one and had to try several times until I found out how to open it more easily with less pressing needed. 😀

I’d wish for an easier one because it’s three buckles you have to detach – two to convert the carrier, one on the belt when putting it down when you’re finishes carrying your child. Anyway, the conversion is easy and fast (if you skip the buckles thing and maybe it’s just me struggling with them) and I’ve carried our girl during around 30min each and to my surprise the small and thin improvised hip belt did it.

It didn’t cut me like I thought and it didn’t transfer all the weight to the hips but evened the weight distribution to a comfy level. I wouldn’t say I’d do a 3-hrs trip in the mountains but for short use it’s a really nice idea ’cause we all might know the feeling that comes after wearing a heavier child with an Onbu for too long…

Conclusion of my BuzziBu test

The Buzzibu was the first Hybrid I’ve been able to test and I like it very much. If you want an Onbu but happen to need your child longer than you thought, you’ll have a fast change into a quite comfortable Full-Buckle and relief your back instantly! A nice plus factor is the adjustable panel width which allows it to grow with your child. 🙂

Tested with my 15 months old girl in may 2018. Many thanks to the sponsor for the testing opportunity!
