Special detergents for baby wraps? I’ve been kinda curious when I first read about Vaipiri – a german brand producing baby wraps and “shampoos” to wash them.
Does one really need a special detergent for baby wraps!?
Well, since Artipoppe, a brand for rather luxurious baby wraps in the Netherlands, is offering a “Spa service” for wraps, nothing can really surprise me anymore… 😀
I got the set of three different bottles – each containing a slightly different detergent:
- Animal hair fibres
- Silk, viscose
- Hemp, Linen, Cotton
Ingredients (base):
- water
- anionic tensides (Natriumlaurylethersulfat, Stearamid MEA)
- preservatives (Kaliumsorbat Natrium Chlorid)
- citric acids
- binding agent (Glykol Distearate)
- lanolin (only in the animal hair one)
The exact amount of each ingredient varies from one detergent to the other to provide an optimum of cleaning and treatment. Due to Vaipiri, their shampoo is biodegradable, mild on baby’s skin and okay for allergic people, too. No bleaching, no brighteners, no enzymes and no perfumes.
Washing me softly
Use: 1/2 cap for hand wash, 1 for machine washes. Lasts for at least 5 (hand) to 10 (machine) washes if you load full but 1/2 cap is enough for one wrap.
I used Vaipiri for 3 of my wraps and was very satisfied. No scent, and, what was really great: the wraps stayed soft! I often had the problem that most wraps felt stiff after drying. I didn’t have wraps with heavy dirt on them, which means I cannot say anything about their cleaning effect. Anyway, in that case I’d always use a natural stain remover from Ulrich before washing.

Conclusion
When I saw the bottles, I thought: “How tiny they are, they won’t last long!” but the thing is, how often do you wash your wraps? I guess you only wash them if it’s really, really necessary. I sometimes even don’t wash them when one tail was hanging in the dirt because I know it won’t go inside the fabric and go away even if I only wash one month later if at all or I just wash the tail – no prob! Of course, there are people buying new wraps in different fibres regularly and they need a wash before use. In this case, it’s best to buy a bottle of each and it will last, well, 2-3 months? 😉
The point in using the Vaipiri wrap shampoo is: I love my wraps, I wash them separately, especially if they’re new (1. because some might bleed, 2. because I don’t want to wash them together with the cloth diapers) and so: why not use their own detergent?
